Location

The Denver and Boudler Scrabble Clubs are hosting a local club tournament on Saturday, June 16th. The tournament will be held at the LoDo Tattered Cover bookstore at 1628 16th Street at Wynkoop in Denver.

Format

7 rounds

At least two divisions, depending on the number of registrants. Play-ups will be permitted within 100 points as long as the top divisions stay even. Portland Swiss pairings with a final round King of the Hill.

Improve Your Game!

The Denver Scrabble Club will be holding two sessions for new players to learn ways to improve their Scrabble game. Topics covered will include strategy, rack balancing, important word lists, U-less Q words, and where to find good players to practice against. Attendees are invited to play casually for the rest of the day, or to take part in the tournament (if pre-registered). There is no charge to attend the strategy sessions, to play casual games, or to observe.

Newcomers

Newcomers to club play are very welcome to play in the tournament. You will be matched against other unrated or lower-rated players. We highly recommend that you attend a club meeting before the tournament to get comfortable playing under tournament rules and using timers. Information about the club and when we meet can be found online at http://www.mancine.com/scrabble/club_details.html.

If you would like to come to the event, but not play in the tournament, you are welcome to observe, chat with club players, get information on Scrabble and the local clubs, and receive helpful word lists.

We expect to have games set up for casual fun play with club members not in the tournament, or with other newcomers to the event.

Registering

The entry fee is $15 for all players. Registration is limited to the first 40 entrants. The registration deadline is Thursday, June 14. No walk-ins will be accepted. You can pay Dominick Mancine at club, or send a check payable to Dominick Mancine to

Notes

It's a good idea to read through the NSA tournament rules before any tournament.

Please bring whatever equipment (board, clock, tiles, racks) you have and your favorite scoresheets.

This is a Local Club Tournament, which is just like a regular tournament, except it counts for only 1/3 as many ratings points.
